The Road to Film Scoring: Early on, Pakk had already displayed an affinity for music. However, he didn't start taking music lessons, namely piano and saxophone lessons, until high school. By his high school graduation, Pakk had performed over a dozen recitals, concerts and talent shows. In 1996, he began studying at Union College, Schenectady, NY, where majored in Biology (pre-med) and minored in Music. At Union, Pakk had been a percussionist for the college's orchestra, an alto saxophonist for the jazz ensemble, and a musical director for the barbershop style male a cappella group, the Dutch Pipers, who released two albums under his direction. In his senior year, Pakk gave his world premiere of his first chamber orchestral work dedicated to his late father in May 2000. Pakk graduated from Union College with honors, and won the Julian Hoffman M.D. Memorial Award for outstanding accomplishments in both the arts and science. Pakk decided to put his music aside to complete a Masters of Science in Healthcare Management and a Masters of Business Administration in Health Systems Administration (both from Union College/Union University, in hope for a career in healthcare, which was his parents' life long dream. However, upon completing these degrees, he realized that what he most wanted was a career in music. Despite going against his late father's wishes, he applied to the film scoring program at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA). In 2002, Pakk was accepted to Berklee, where he spent the next three years completing a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Film Scoring and Composition. During his stay at Berklee, Pakk has become a composer with a mature voice. His string quartet, "Alice", earned him a Certificate of Excellence in Composition from the college. Furthermore, his piano sonata was featured in Berklee's Piano Week in February 2005. Pakk graduated from Berklee with honors and received the Soren Christensen Memorial Award in Film Scoring for outstanding contribution to the department and demonstrating a promising future in film scoring. In July 2005, Pakk drove from Boston to Los Angeles, where he began his career in the film music industry. Pakk currently lives in Los Angeles.
